During the semi-annual session of the Masonic High Chamber held this Sunday in Havana, attendees elected asnew Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba to Juan Alberto Kessel Linares, to occupy a position given hours before by theexpelled Mario Alberto Urquía Carreño.
According to a note from the digital portalCubaNet “Kessel Linares is the titular master of the Pi Margall Lodge, in Havana. AlsoHe has been a representative before the Upper House for more than 15 years; served asGrand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Cuba, isGrand Master of Ceremony of the Upper Chamber of the Rite (Supreme Council of the 33rd Degree for the Republic of Cuba) and provincial delegate of the Supreme Council. He was a candidate for Grand Master in 2022”.
Kessel Linares was elected for a one-year term until new elections are called.
Some of the reactions to his appointment assure that "we place a vote of confidence so that the process of clarification and total prosecution of all officials, including those of the spurious Masonic court of justice, continues."
The previous Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba Mario Alberto Urquía Carreño had been expelled a few hours before, due to tensions in the organization after thetheft of 19 thousand dollars from this manager's office.
“Get out, thief, usurper, scoundrel, traitor,” were the cries that the representatives of the more than three hundred lodges in the country shouted at the Grand Master, who was illegal in his position of presiding over said meeting, since, on January 25, he had beenexpelled by the Supreme Council of Degree 33 for the Republic of Cuba.
Both organizations have signed a Treaty of Peace and Friendship by virtue of which, if a Freemason is sanctioned or expelled in one of these instances, the other party must abide by the same sanction.
