Specialists from the Provincial Meteorological Center (CMP) of Matanzas develop an early warning service for severe local storms aimed at private agricultural producers.
Niliam Fernández Rosado, deputy technical director of that institution, explained that this sector is interested in accessing information in real time about the state of the weather, to avoid damage and adapt to theclimate change, reported the officialCubadebate.
The specialist warned that theagriculture should make greater use of the information provided by the center, services that are essential to mitigate the effects of climate change on any human activity.
Fernández emphasized that the research carried out at the CMP is used in scenarios where integrated coastal management is applied, and also in sites that host specific activities, such as tourism and livestock farming.
This is one of the innovative lines of research in 2024 that will be implemented in the future, he stressed.
The seven existing stations in Matanzas have the equipment to develop agrometeorological activity.
In the municipalities of Perico, Jovellanos, Colón and Jagüey Grande there is interest in associating the behavior of the climate with different crops such as beans, Fernández pointed out.
