State Security summons an animal activist on the eve of Dog Day in Cuba

A walk is planned on Sunday, an activity that has become traditional and where "only the issue of animal welfare is discussed."

Animal activist Freddy del Sol denounced that State security sent him a new summons for April 13, the day before the celebrations for Dog Day in Cuba.

The activist was due to appear this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Buena Vista National Revolutionary Police (PNR) station, in the Havana municipality of Playa, according to a document posted by Del Sol on his X profile "@FiloProtector."

"The State Security continues to harass me, apparently, I say, I don't know, you never know why they are summoning you, but I think they want to prevent my mobility on Pilgrimage Sunday for Dog Day in Cuba," he wrote.

He explained that a walk is planned on Sunday, an activity that has become traditional and where "only the topic of animal welfare is talked about."

"The public is magnificent and a large part of the animal movement that we almost never see each other meets and we take this date to celebrate what we have achieved," he said.

Del Sol affirms that "it is easier to join the pilgrimage than to prohibit it and it can be the most beautiful activity on the planet; but we live in Cuba and it seems annoying that this idea that came from the people who protect animals is done as it should be," he argued. .

The day before, animal defenders in Mayabeque managed to arrest three individuals who had stolen several dogs, both pets and strays, and killed them for sell the meat as if it were pork or mutton, and as mincemeat.

Activist Yenney Caballero Peña also managed to get some victims of the deception to go to the police to file a complaint and hand over the dog meat they bought to the authorities.

In 2022 State Security banned the activist and animal activist Cuban Betty Batista Moreno participate in the pilgrimage for Dog Day in Cuba, which was also celebrated on a Sunday in Havana.
