Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz called for exemplary measures to be applied to lower prices in Cuba, in another attempt to divert attention from the true causes of inflation on the island.
"What is each council doing in the battle against prices, we are lacking hard hand in many places, take exemplary measures in defense of our people," he stated during a meeting with officials from Isla de la Juventud.
He stated that "structures at the provincial and grassroots level are not meeting with the communities" and that "there is inattention."
"That happens to us leaders, that during a visit to a community the people They take the opportunity to tell us their dissatisfaction because they can't find another space," he said.
Until now, Marrero Cruz's solutions to the Cuban crisis marked by rising prices have been based on threats and exemplary measures, without taking into account the root cause of the Cuban inflationary phenomenon, which skyrocketed after the approved economic measures. by the regime since 2020.
In March, the official threatened to take away the license and even the vehicles of all those carriers raising prices from service.
On social networks, the announcement sparked controversy, as many Internet users thought that the government will not be able to control prices, among other things because it is a problem with the macroeconomic structure of the country and because they do not have an efficient system of inspectors who can suppress the rise. .
It was the second time in a few days that the Cuban government launched threats against the private transportation sector due to possible price increases.
On March 1, during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Transportation from all over the country, Manuel Marrero urged the elimination of "softness" in the face of rising prices and announced a Crusade against boat drivers who increase the rates of services to the population.
