Video of Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero singing causes a stir on social networks

Marrero gave free rein to his interpretation of the popular song “El Rey” in an attitude that many attribute to too much drinking.

A video showing the Cuban prime ministerManuel Marrero singing the popular ranchera “El Rey” in the doorway of a house, accompanied by several people and apparently quite drunk, has gone viral in the last few hours on social networks.

In the images, the senior Cuban official is seen leaning on two men - possibly bodyguards - while singing at the top of his lungs the classic by Mexican José Alfredo Jiménez, by the way, anthem par excellence of any self-respecting drunkenness, at least in the Spanish language.

The video - just over a minute - allows us to see a very smiling and carefree Manuel Marrero who does not hesitate to sing at the top of his voice what he says.“With money and without money / I always do what I want / And my word is the law / I have no throne or queen / Nor anyone who understands me / But I am still the king.”

It must be recognized that this is a suggestive fragment in the case of the prime minister of a country in ruins and in crisis.

In all the forums where the images have been reproduced, dozens of comments have attacked the unpopular prime minister.

“Manuel Marrero completely untied and drunk. Some believe that these images have no relevance, and yes they do, of course they do, we are talking about a prime minister of a military dictatorship“, an Internet user observed on Twitter from the “Café con chícharo” account.

“Clear my doubts. Is this man in a sorry state the prime minister of Cuba? The same one who asks Cubans for sacrifices while filling his belly with pork and alcohol? “This is it, right?”, asked the actor Roberto Sanmartín in front of the images.

There has also been no shortage of people who noticed that Marrero changed the lyrics of the song:he doesn't roll, he flies...

In the midst of the criticism, it has also been possible to find some militant proud of their prime minister's drunkenness.

"Thank you very much. I really liked it. Our leaders are part of it and they leave the town. It's that simple. Without many escorts like the ones there. Sufraaaaan it's worth it," the user "Herobis and the Sierra Maestra" posted.

There are those who pointed out that The leaked video dates back some time, as Manuel Marrero had much less of a belly than he looks like today.

Other Internet users assured that this is not the first embarrassing act carried out by the member of the leadership, and warn that during his long term as tourism minister he was involved in several anecdotes that left little to be desired.

“If I tell you the stories about him when he was tourism minister, you'll fall back, and believe me, I know well about that because I worked for a few years in that sector. But nothing, the life of all of them is known even if it is not seen, and overall, the room is the same", someone observed bitterly.

“We are not ashamed but we have mariachi,” said another amazed Internet user.

Born in Holguín and an architect by profession, Manuel Marrero Cruz joined the tourism sector in 1990, where he quickly grew like wildfire. He started as an investor in the Gaviota Group.

Later he was head of the technical investment group, deputy director and general director of the Río de Luna hotel and then deputy delegate of Gaviota for the eastern provinces.

He was also general director of the Varadero Azul hotel complex, first vice president and finally president of Gaviota.

In 2004, he assumed the Ministry of Tourism appointed by Fidel Castro and remained in that position until December 2019, when he was named prime minister of Cuba.

Among Cubans, his unpopularity is growing at a rate even faster than his belly, which is saying a lot.
