Fuel denied for power plant of young person with disabilities after assault in Holguín

The refusal to sell fuel is causing distress for the father of Lester Domínguez Ortiz, a young man who is bedridden after surviving a violent assault in Holguín, as the blackouts and the overall crisis hinder his son's recovery.

The father of 18-year-old Lester Domínguez Ortiz, who was attacked with a machete during a violent robbery in 2023 in the province of Holguín, reported that authorities refused to sell him the necessary fuel for the power generator at his home this Tuesday.

Dennis Domínguez explained on Facebook that his son's recovery requires a generator for ventilation, an anti-decubitus mattress, and the preparation of his meals, which causes him distress in light of the government's indifference in the town of San Germán, located in the municipality of Urbano Noris.

The distressed father explained that the refusal to sell gasoline was because "the motors (the means of transport) were due," and the proposed solution from the person in charge was that "if we wanted it, we would have to bring a motor" to buy the fuel.

"This is how this bureaucratic system works: first transportation, and then on the day they schedule it for a patient who is bedridden," she expressed with anger, as the lack of fuel jeopardizes her son's complicated recovery.

Finally, he said that the young man spent a week with his family in Holguín, a stay that became challenging when Lester fell into a depression and refused to eat for a day and a half.

He recounted that the trigger was a moment when family members questioned his willingness to live under those conditions permanently, which distressed the young man.

In previous instances, Lester's recovery has been impacted by power outages. Just a few hours after being medically discharged in 2023, the young man had to be readmitted to the hospital due to electricity cuts in the town of San Germán, where he lives.

"Today we have him in the hospital because there is no power in San Germán; they are cutting the electricity from 6 PM to midnight, and that is hindering his recovery," the father explained.

Since the tragic assault in March 2023, the young Lester Domínguez has faced a slow and difficult recovery process, marked by several setbacks in his health and mood.

In mid-May, the father sought help for a sore that had developed on the boy. By that time, Lester was already spending hours without artificial ventilation, the fever had subsided, and his blood parameters were stable.
