A 17-year-old young man identified as Jader Machado Fis was killed by his own father this Monday in the city of Las Tunas, according to various reports on social media.
The killer—whose identity has not been revealed, although he is known as "Kikito"—is said to have stabbed the minor in the neck.
The teenager, despite undergoing emergency surgery after the knife assault, ultimately died from cardiac arrest.
The incident - which took place in the Aguilera neighborhood - has caused immense shock among family, neighbors, friends of the victim, and citizens in general, who cannot believe that a father could fatally harm his own son.
The attacker turned himself in to the police after the crime, as reported on Facebook by the news portal La Tijera, one of the first to inform about the horrific murder.
Among the hundreds of comments prompted by the tragic news, an internet user pointed out that the child's mother is deceased and that the boy was being raised by his maternal grandmother.
However, a second version indicated that the child was being raised by his paternal grandmother and had been abandoned by his mother when he was a child.
It has been reported that the aggressor had recently been released from prison.
The crime reporter, Niover Licea, specified that the individual was on parole at the time he targeted his son and emphasized that he had already been convicted of murdering a neighbor about 20 years ago.
Regarding the cause of the heinous crime, Licea stated that it all began with an argument over the remote control of a television, a claim we have been unable to verify.
Neighbors say that the young man was a deacon at the church and was a very good boy. No one understands what could have happened," noted a commentator on social media, a perspective that was corroborated by other users.
"I don't understand anything. I'm speechless"; "Speechless, the unthinkable: a father killing his son. God will take care of giving him what he deserves, and justice will follow"; "Not a day goes by without hearing of so many tragedies happening in Cuba. How long, for God's sake?" These are just three of the comments expressing the shock and sorrow of Cubans shaken by the tragedy.
Dozens of commentators across all forums where the brutal filicide has been reported have called for the urgent application of the death penalty in Cuba for cases as brutal as this one.
As of the closing of this report, there are no further details regarding the tragic murder. As is common, state-run media have not reported on the incident, which adds to the growing wave of violence affecting the island.
