Cuban pitcher Yariel Rodríguez, who joined the Canadian Major League Baseball team Toronto Blue Jays last February through a four-year, $32 million deal, is facing a lawsuit in the Dominican Republic for allegedly breaching a contract with an agent.

"The demand comes from an agent who would help him on his path to MLB; the contract was for two million dollars that were never paid," explained journalist Yasel Porto on the social media platform Facebook.

The representative, named Raymel Martínez, was a key figure in Yariel's journey to where he is now, Porto highlighted.

"Raymel would take a percentage of the contract that the Cuban pitcher would secure in the future; this percentage changed over time (it is said that initially it was 25%) until it was settled at 2 million dollars," explained the sports journalist.

"However, according to the lawsuit, Yariel has not fulfilled his part," Porto added.

"This case is very similar to the one that the Cuban gardener Yoanis Céspedes had in the past with the same agent," the journalist emphasized, highlighting that on that occasion, the courts determined that the hitter was required to pay what was stipulated in the contract.

"These cases are complex and take time to resolve. Additionally, there are more people involved, such as the preparer Edgar Mercedes, who was part of Yariel's team," Porto pointed out in conclusion.

Rodríguez arrived in the United States on February 16th, through Miami International Airport, thus beginning his career with the Toronto Blue Jays.

"His journey to the Major Leagues began a year ago, and now he will be able to make it a reality," said sports journalist Francys Romero on social media platform X.
