The Hearing Panel of Centro Caribe Sports lifted the provisional suspension for doping of the Cuban weightlifter Marifélix Sarría Ruiz.
The suspension had been imposed in August of last year due to a violation of anti-doping rules, after a urine sample taken during the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 tested positive for the substance Boldenone and its metabolites, reported the official portal specialized in sport Jit.
This substance is prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency's List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.
Sarría, who had been a gold medalist in the over 87 kg division, had the medal won at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games withdrawn for testing positive for doping tests.
However, after an exhaustive investigation, the Panel determined that although Sarría Ruiz had committed a violation, no guilt or negligence was found on his part. Therefore, no period of ineligibility will be imposed on you.
The defense of the young athlete, a native of Cienfuegos, argued that the presence of the substance in her body was due to the consumption of contaminated meat prior to her participation in the competition.
The explanation was supported by scientific evidence, documents and testimonies presented during the process.
The Panel recognized the credibility of Sarría Ruiz's explanation and positively assessed his clean record in previous anti-doping controls. In addition, they highlighted the effort of the commission of specialists to corroborate the explanation offered by the athlete.
Following the Panel's ruling, the weightlifter from Cienfuegos has been notified and will be able to return to the platforms to continue her sporting career.
