The young torpedero, who lived on Cuarta Street, between Primera and Tercera in the Santa Rosa neighborhood, passed away due to an illness that prevented him from participating in the current edition of the Serie Nacional de Pelota, Mayeta noted.

However, sources told CiberCuba that the player died due to leukemia.

Colás participated in three National Series with the Avispas and was consistently recognized as one of the great talents of the province. According to coach Eriberto Rosales, as quoted by the Facebook page Por La Goma, he had everything it took to become the best in his position in the country.

On social media, close friends have joined in the profound sorrow caused by the death of the young athlete.

The Santiago baseball player Euclides Pérez expressed his sorrow on Facebook over the passing of his colleague: “It's very hard to know that you won't be among all of us who love you dearly. You will always be my brother, we will miss you, and I will never forget all the beautiful moments we shared and all the joys we experienced in baseball, which is what we’ve loved since we were kids.”

"We love you, Kakete, as we always said, my friend. You know what it means to have a brotherhood; you will always be among us. Rest in peace; God has a beautiful place for you, just as you deserve," he expressed with deep sorrow.

A person responding on Facebook under the name La Tranka De Cuba commented: “I still can’t believe this, it can’t be true. On our birthday today, this news leaves me powerless. My brother, may he rest in peace.”

Although brief, Colás's career was poised to elevate him to the pinnacle of national sports, according to the site Swing Completo.

He made his debut in Cuban baseball in 2019 during the 59th National Series. He played 24 games with the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba and had a batting average of just .161. His offensive production consisted of five hits, including one double, driving in two runs and scoring six.

He then rejoined the indomitable team in series 61 and 62, primarily as a shortstop and substitute runner. He recorded his first career triple in 2023, before leaving the team due to illness.

In summary, over three seasons, Colás had an average of .191 (94-18), with three doubles and one triple as extra-base hits. He drove in six runs and scored 20, maintaining a fielding percentage of .903 with 14 errors in 144 chances.

He wore the number 13 on his uniform with the Avispas of Santiago de Cuba.
