Users on social media are seeking assistance for Omar Quintero, known as the Promises Payer, who last March began a new pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Caridad de El Cobre with an offering for the Patroness of Cuba.
In 2022, Omar became well-known in the country for his promise to walk from Havana to El Cobre, in Santiago de Cuba, to ask the saint to save his son, who was ill with cancer.
Recently, he decided to return to the road; however, social media users, such as Luis Emilio Concepción Chacón, have pointed out that this time the Promises Payer lacks public support and companionship.
This person reported on Facebook that on May 1st, they encountered Omar, arriving alone in Sabanilla on the Bayamo road. Concerned for his situation, they sought help on social media, urging others to accompany and assist him.
"Doesn't anyone remember this gentleman, the Promissory Payer, who is currently arriving at Sabanilla on the Bayamo road and has no one with him? Please help him," said Concepción.
The same situation was pointed out by Alexis Hernández Rosabal in the Facebook group "Personajes de Palma Soriano (grupo de Alexis)," who alerted on May 2 that "this time he is seen walking alone on the Central Highway."
"Without his rolling cart, without companions, perhaps without the knowledge of the vast majority of Cubans who extended their hand and support during his initial promise," Hernández emphasized, describing how he saw Omar dressed in white, holding an image of the Virgin of Charity of Cobre in his hands.
Hernández emphasized that "in a few days, Omar will arrive at the sanctuary of El Cobre in honor of his son," and additionally shared photos of the Promises Payer, where he is seen pilgrimaging alone with a small backpack.
Thousands of Cubans followed his journey on social media and also supported him as he traveled through the country’s roads and towns.
Her arrival at the church of El Cobre was also a moment celebrated for its special significance to this family.
However, shortly after his return to Havana, the death of his son Lazaro Quintero Bermúdez, aged 36, was reported.
The Italian actor Davide Cuttica supported Omar and formed a strong friendship with him. Last March, he announced that the Pagador de Promesas was back on the road to resume its tour.
This pilgrimage is also in memory of her beloved son.
