Opinion of Uruguayan workers about Cubans: "They take the work that we don't want"

The 2023 Census of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in Uruguay detailed that Cubans represent 20 percent of the migrant population in that country.

However, at least 5,000 Cubans are in immigration limbo, since they do not have refugee status and cannot renounce the refugee application to process permanent residence that would allow family reunification.

At the end of April, Cubans in Uruguay demonstrated in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to demand that the government facilitate their path to regularization in the country.
