David Llanos, a garbage truck driver in the city of Tampa, Florida, has become a local hero after finding a lost child, earning him recognition with an award for his service.
Mayor Jane Castor awarded the "Life Changer" award to David Llanos last Monday in a gesture of admiration for his outstanding action on March 19, when he found a distraught woman on the road looking for his son, the television station reported WFLA.
The incident occurred around 9:00 am, when Llanos, who stopped the march, “did everything possible” to help, until he managed to find the little boy one block from his house, the aforementioned channel noted.
The driver later reunited the boy with his mother, who was very worried.
Larry Washington, director of Solid Waste, in a statement said that “I couldn't be more proud of David Llanos for realizing that something was wrong and intervening to help.”
“Their heroic actions reflect our team's dedication to the community and reinforce our role as first responders,” he said.
The governor's office stated in its website that, each year, workers who collect solid waste receive a course that helps them be “vigilant and remain alert at special events and on collection routes.”
Another singular event occurred in Suwannee County, Florida, when a pitbull dog kept his owner safe for hours, a three-year-old boy who had gotten lost in the woods.
The county Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a mother, who reported that her son was playing outside with his siblings and had wandered away. She thought the child was with Buddy, the family dog, who was also not at home.
