A monkey that escaped this Monday from the Caibarién zoo, in Villa Clara, was caught during an operation in which Red Berets of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) participated along with dogs, as revealed by witnesses on social networks.
The animal kept residents of the Van Troi 1 neighborhood in check, because he entered some balconies and was aggressive with some humans he encountered, as revealed on Facebook by Internet user Alberto Concepción.
In another publication, the source specified that The animal stole food from some balconies, which confirms the cause of its escape from the premises: hunger.
In a video released, the animal could be seen moving at full speed across the roof of a building before the expectant gaze of local residents and authorities.
“He's all over Caibarien up there now.”said a witness in the middle of a funny dialogue in which another remembered that in India monkeys are everywhere.
It is not clear how the little monkey was caught, but The scene of Red Berets accompanied by muzzled dogs did not sit well with animal protectors.
“I denounce! A loose monkey but is that the alternative to being able to hunt it? “The animals at the Caibarién zoo are dying of hunger without the slightest possibility”, critical an Internet user from the group “Total Support for Animals”, who specified that what they wanted to do was sedate him so they could catch him.
“I love dogs and they are my life, but led by professionals who train them, they are dangerous and the solution cannot be to throw the dogs at the monkey once it is sedated,” added the aforementioned source.
He stated that the monkey is stressed because his caretaker died a while ago and he must miss him.
"Beyond what is happening today, we must look for the cause why the monkey is fleeing. Those animals at the Caibarién zoo are starving, they have no food to give them, I share a photo of the lions, they are stunted. Many will say that people are also hungry and that things are hard, but the difference is that they did not choose to be there, they were hunted from their natural environment to be taken to those cages as innocent prisoners.", alleged the animal source, who asked for an end to the abuse.
In the comments section of the publication, dozens of Internet users agreed that That zoo should be closed and the animals moved to a place where they can be better cared for and fed.
“It is very sad and abusive so much display, not even if it was a murderous monkey”; “Animals did not choose that life, if they cannot have animals that lead them to the freedom they deserve, we are the worst species that exists”; "Sad situation in this country that even animals suffer," were other opinions.
There were also those who pointed out that Law 31 on Animal Welfare establishes that the necessary conditions must be in place so that animals do not feel stressed or are poorly fed so that none of that happens.
The worst thing is that this is not the first time something like this has happened, In November 2019, not one but a group of monkeys escaped from the local zoo and spent weeks wandering rooftops and garbage dumps in search of food.
On that occasion, residents reported that for several days the monkeys were loose, entering homes and stealing food. The zoo authorities were concerned, but with their hands tied because they argued that they did not have the resources to bring the primates back to the enclosure.
Five years after that incident, the complaint has not been due to inaction, but rather due to a deployment that many do not consider appropriate for the case.
A year before the escape of several monkeys, In 2018 it was news that a monkey ate a neighbor's glasses "as if they were cookies."
The facilities were devastated like the rest of the town by Hurricane Irma. After the weather phenomenon, the Caibarién zoo was closed to the public for several months and the spaces remained unrestored and the animals were alive but hungry. Judging by the recent escape of a monkey, hunger persists.
