The movie "Plantadas," a tribute to the political prisoners victimized by the Castro regime, is now available on the Hispanic streaming platform Vix and can be accessed from Cuba through the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service.
Activist Yamila Maceo announced on Facebook this Wednesday: "'Plantadas' is now on VIX. My people from Cuba, download a VPN, and I'll send you the link to the movie."
Among the comments, the opposition member posted the direct link to the film, giving Cubans the opportunity to access an audiovisual material that denounces the crimes committed by the dictatorship, which is particularly significant given the regime's strong censorship.
The film, directed by filmmaker Lilo Vilaplana, follows three women who fight to restore and stabilize democracy in Cuba, until the leader of their revolution betrays them, as reported by the Vix platform.
The streaming platform points out that they "must survive in a prison where their rights are violated without respect for their condition as women," reflecting what constantly happens in prisons in Cuba.
"Plantadas", which was filmed during the year 2022, features performances by Alina Robert, Claudia Toma, Rachel Vallori, Yuliet Cruz, Ariel Texidó, Daniel Romero, Luis Manuel Álvarez, Lily Rentería, Larisa Vega, Amarilys Núñez, Juanita Baró, Vivian Ruiz, and Frank Egusquiza.
The script is written by Ángel Santiesteban, Ninoska Pérez, and Vilaplana himself, who shares directing duties with his son Camilo.
During the premiere of the film at the XL Miami International Film Festival last year, Joe Carollo, Miami commissioner, stated that "any person who watches this film and is Cuban and is not affected by it is a human being who has no heart or conscience. Seeing the suffering of these ladies, of thousands like them, deeply affected me. These women we have here have more courage than the vast majority of men in the world."
