The Cuban para-athlete Yankiel Sol Cervantes left his mark on the World Para Athletics Championships, held in the Japanese city of Kobe, after winning the final of the men's T47 long jump event.
According to the Cuban News Agency, the Cuban athlete took the honors in the second jump with a distance of 7.60 meters, unreachable for his competitors. Also noteworthy were his jumps of 7.42 m and 7.55 m, which would have been enough for him to secure the crown.
Behind the Cuban athlete, the Russian competing as a neutral athlete Nikita Kotukov (7.32 m) and the Chinese athlete Hao Wang (7.25 m) were left in second and third positions, respectively.
The other Cuban para-athlete present in the same competition, Abraham Viltrés, made the best jump of his life with 6.28 m and finished in 13th place.
At the beginning of April, Yankiel broke his own world record at the Parathletics Grand Prix held in Xalapa, Mexico.
The champion of the past Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games stretched to 7.84 meters to beat the mark he had set himself at the Pan American multi-sport event in Santiago de Chile 2023 by stretching to 7.74 meters.
All these credentials made him the favorite in this world championship in Japan and they draw attention to him for the Paralympic Games in Paris between July and August next.
