Several figures from the Cuban government spoke out this Sunday about the disappearance of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and a delegation of high-ranking officials from that country.
"Shocked by the news, we express to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the beloved people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, our solidarity and best wishes and hopes that President Raisi and his companions are located without harm to their health," stated the Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel on the social media platform X.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero expressed that from Cuba they are following "the search and rescue operations for the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, after the emergency landing of the helicopter he was traveling in due to the bad weather conditions in the area."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla extended his concern a bit further and cited his Iranian counterpart.
"All our solidarity, best wishes, and hopes to the beloved people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to President Ebrahim Raisi, and to Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian," he stated.
In the early hours of this Sunday, a helicopter transporting President Raisi experienced a "rough landing," as reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
So far, the magnitude of the incident and the health status of Raisi are unknown, who was accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking officials from his government.
The state television indicated that the area of the incident was near Jolfa, a city on the border with Azerbaijan, about 600 kilometers northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Raisi had been in Azerbaijan in the early hours of this Sunday to inaugurate with the President of that country, Ilham Aliyev, the third dam that the two nations are building on the Aras River.
Everything points to the fact that bad weather conditions forced the helicopter to make an emergency landing. Despite the swift response of the rescue services, IRNA reports that fog is preventing the rescue from being carried out successfully.
However, in the afternoon, the Iranian Army claimed to have located the "exact" position of the helicopter carrying the president and his entourage, thanks to a signal from the aircraft and another from the mobile phone of one of the crew members.
But, up to the moment of writing this information, no official details are known about the results of this exploration.
