Mexican tourist shocked after visiting Cuba: "I found the country devastated"

Mexican Irina Segura acknowledged that Cuba is a beautiful country, but warned about the consequences of the profound economic crisis.

After visiting several places in Cuba, including Havana and the resort of Varadero, a Mexican tourist concluded that the country is devastated and plunged into a deep economic crisis.

Irina Segura shared a video on TikTok last Friday, in which she summed up her experience on the island, describing it as an "alteration of her brain chemistry."

Although she admitted that "Cuba is a truly beautiful country," the visitor could not help but notice the current problems such as power outages, shortages, and the poverty affecting the population.

According to the young woman, as she moved away from the historic center of Havana, she found "many parts of the city completely destroyed," pointing out the high level of deterioration of the buildings in the Cuban capital.

Furthermore, he pointed out that in the restaurants he visited, they always explained to him which items from the menu he could eat and which ones were not available due to shortages.

On one occasion, a waitress asked him to give her accessories such as makeup, clothes, and hygiene products if he had only a few days left in Cuba.

On the other hand, in Havana, she also experienced one of the usual blackouts that affect Cubans, which, according to her, are to "save energy," and one of the reasons that make the Caribbean country a very unattractive destination.

He recounted that, on one occasion, he needed to buy a phone chip, but ETECSA informed him that there were none available. However, he managed to buy one "on the black market" for 50 USD, which demonstrates the level of corruption in that Cuban socialist company.

In Varadero, in the province of Matanzas, he said that a person explained to him that the hunger and lack of food suffered by Cubans is not perceived by tourists, who are offered "all-inclusive hotels with buffets."

In addition, Segura reported that there is discrimination in tourist transportation, as Cubans are forced to wait for the bus under the sun, for example, while foreigners are in ventilated and comfortable locations.

Recently, another tourist had a similar impression of Havana. While exploring the streets, they noticed the contrast between the reality presented by the official Cuban propaganda and the true situation they experienced during their walks, which was much less attractive.

The disappointment he experienced while visiting different places in Havana was captured in a video posted on TikTok this Thursday. While exploring a vacant lot in Central Havana, he wondered: "How can people live in this situation?"
