The extensive power outages in Matanzas left the children in that territory without "liquid milk," local authorities reported.
A note published on the Facebook profile of the pro-government channel Telebandera points out that this Wednesday, May 22, the processing of fluid milk from the dairy complex in Colón could not be guaranteed due to the "electroenergetic contingency."
The note explains that since not all the available milk was processed, it "spoiled."
In its place, powdered milk will be distributed, a product that consumers will receive in the afternoon at the various sales points in Cárdenas," the information specifies.
At least 39,000 children in Matanzas receive milk through direct delivery as well as from the industry.
For some months now, liquid milk has been provided as a subsidized alternative to powdered milk at a cost of 0.25 national currency cents to children aged one to seven years old.
The energy crisis, which has left several cities in the country with power outages of up to 20 hours daily, has caused great unrest among the population, who mostly also cook with electric stoves and pots.
On the eve in territories like Santiago de Cuba, the sale of charcoal to the population was announced "as an alternative in the face of the electroenergetic deficit and fuel situation" in the country.
