New images of the floods caused by heavy rains in Cuba.

In Nuevitas, Camagüey, the floods forced the evacuation of more than 1,200 residents to higher areas.


The heavy rains that fell in Cuba on Thursday caused major flooding in several provinces, whose images have been shared on the Internet in the last few hours.

"With the heavy rain, there is a risk that the sewer covers are open, causing some of those negligent people playing in the flood to have accidents and even drown," he added.

The Internet user Emicenio Z Zaldívar shared photos of cars and motorcycles covered in water taken in Old Havana and Central Havana.

Residents who commented on the post confirmed the occurrence of heavy rain in the Santa Amalia neighborhood, as well as in Arroyo Naranjo, Alamar, La Lisa, San Agustín, and the El Guatao area.

The Forecast Center of the Meteorology Institute (INSMET) warned that showers, rain, and thunderstorms could occur in the late afternoon and evening in much of the country, "being more numerous in inland locations and the north coast of central and western regions."

As an additional note in its statement, INSMET added that in areas of showers and thunderstorms, the strength of the wind and the height of the waves can increase.
