A Cuban denounces precariousness at the terminal of the Havana airport: "An abandoned baseball field."

"Why do you want to enter if there is no bread?" was the reply received when asking an airport worker about the reason for the state of abandonment.

A Cuban who arrived from Mexico was surprised by the abandoned state of terminal one at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, which he compared to a neglected baseball field.

Reinaldo López Vázquez reported on Facebook that when he entered the terminal designated for domestic flights to continue his trip to Santiago de Cuba, he found a darkened store.

"It looked like a baseball field where no games have been played for a long time," he commented on social media expressing his anger.

He explained that when he asked one of the employees about the reason for the state of abandonment, the employee replied: "What do you want to come in for if there isn't even any bread?", denouncing the poor quality of services and offerings at this place.

The Cuban's unfortunate experience continued with a flight delay, causing him to arrive in Santiago de Cuba at 2:00 AM.

López pointed out that he arrived at the airport in Havana, coming from Mérida, at 2:30 PM the day before. In total, it took him almost 12 hours to travel from the capital to the city of Santiago de Cuba.

The experience, according to him, was an explicit reminder that he was in the Caribbean nation: "It seems they wanted to remind me, clarify, say loud and clear: Don't get your hopes up, you have just arrived in Cuba."

The current economic crisis affects every corner of the nation, including airport services, where several complaints attest to the lack of maintenance, the precarious situation of the facilities, and also of the services.

Last March, the critical energy situation that the country is going through was evident at Cuba's main airport terminal, when it surprised its users with a blackout.

The Instagram user un_martitodurako8_live_oficial shared a video of the terminal shut down with several people inside, waiting for the power service to be restored, which consequently halted the operations of the airport terminal.

A Peruvian tourist, who visited Cuba last February, also showed the airport in Havana, which he described as one of the oldest he has seen.

"It still has the essence of 60s airports, 50s, 40s," said content creator Mauricio Isat, identified as Pasaje en Mano Perú on his social media, in a video posted on TikTok.
