Social media once again echoes a new case of animal abuse in Cuba that occurred in Havana, with the circulation on Tuesday of images showing a dog locked in a car under the sun.

Grettel Montes de Oca published on Facebook the photographs, pointing out that the dog had been locked inside a car for an hour, outside the Oncology Hospital, by the main entrance, on F and 29.

"The person who reported to me tried to look outside with the parking attendants and even tried to open the car," Montes denounced, urging people to share the post to help get the dog out of that risky situation.

In a few hours, the publication was shared by 425 people. Many remembered that there are reports of dead animals in similar circumstances, which constitutes another documented case of animal abuse in Cuba.

Many times, social media is the channel through which similar incidents are reported in Cuba, where animals have little to no protection from the regime.

Recently, Cuban animal rights activists reported that the owners of a Siberian Husky puppy left it locked up for three days in an abandoned house in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque.

Yenney Caballero, a staunch defender of animals in that area, broke a fragment of the acrylic from the door and when she inserted her cell phone camera, she was able to confirm that the place was abandoned and that the prisoner was a puppy.

Indignant and not knowing what to do, Caballero finally decided to free the animal through the opening in the acrylic and told the dog's owners to look for her and, if they wanted, report her to the police.

In recent days, the same activist reported on Facebook that in Villa Clara, a horse was subjected to mistreatment, resulting in the death of the animal.

The gentleman requested urgent government action to punish those responsible and modify the Animal Welfare Decree in favor of harsher penalties.
