Robeisy Ramírez delivered a spectacular knockout to Mexican Brandon León Benítez on Saturday at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach, in a fight that paves the way for his goal of reclaiming the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title.
The Cuban boxer led the offensive in the first six rounds, which he won all. At 2:46 minutes of the seventh, he delivered a powerful hook that left his opponent sitting on the canvas for several minutes.
"My coach Ismael Salas told me not to go for the power punch, that this fight was a matter of technique, that I should go back to my roots. That's how the punch came, something that I have done many times in my career," he said in the center of the ring, quoted by ESPN.
The cienfueguero boasts a record of 14-2-0, with nine of those victories achieved by devastating knockouts.
His friend and compatriot Yordenis Ugás congratulated him for his great performance.
The whole team is very happy. Now we have to keep working even harder. With this performance, the next fight should be another shot at the world title and it will be much tougher. The goal is to become a champion again," he said on Instagram.
After this important victory, El Tren Ramírez's goal is to achieve a rematch against Mexican Rafael Espinoza, who stripped him of his featherweight belt from the World Boxing Association (WBA) last December in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The 30-year-old fighter announced last May that he would return to the ring in Miami to try to reclaim his WBO title.
On June 29th, my mission to reclaim my world title and return to the top, where I know I belong, begins. Cuba vs. Mexico once again, and I am excited to have the loyal support of the Cuban community in Miami. So bring your flag, he wrote on social media.
"It will be an electrifying event. The journey is far from over. My return will be legendary. "The Train returns!" he added.
