In January 2021, he received the welterweight world title after the Filipino Manny Pacquiao was declared "champion in recess."
It is common to see Yordenis on his social media supporting causes in which Cubans are involved to promote change in the government of Cuba. His support for the San Isidro Movement, along with his appeal to Cuban athletes and artists through a video encouraging them to denounce to the world the reality of oppression experienced on the island, has made him one of the most influential Cuban personalities.
