In January 2021, he received the world welterweight title after the Filipino Manny Pacquiao was declared "champion in recess."

It is common to see Yordenis through his social media supporting the causes in which Cubans are involved to promote change in the government of Cuba. His support for the San Isidro Movement, as well as his appeal to Cuban athletes and artists through a video inviting them to denounce to the world the reality of oppression experienced on the island, has made him one of the most influential Cuban personalities.
