True to the predictions, and without surprises in the competitive performance, the Cuban team defeated Mexico (2-0) in the dispute for the gold medal and closed the Pan American Baseball5 Tournament undefeated, staged in the city of Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
In the grand final, the Antillean team defeated the North American team 8-1 and 6-4, with the standout performances of the men Briandy Molina and Orlando Amador, and the woman Chaquira Aspiazú, all with six hits each in the day, according to JIT's digital page.
Precisely, Molina and Aspiazú were recognized as the Most Valuable Players of the competition, which awarded three tickets to the World Championship of the sport, scheduled for this year in Hong Kong.
"I don't play for prizes, but I give myself to support the team. I am very happy because the group achieved the two set goals: securing the ticket for the Hong Kong World Championship and the title in this Pan American tournament," expressed Aspiazú to the aforementioned publication.
In 2022, Cuba surpassed Japan and was crowned champion in the first Baseball5 World Cup, which took place at the Zócalo in Mexico City. The bronze went to Chinese Taipei, after defeating Venezuela twice.
Baseball5 or Baseball 5, also known as Four Corners, is an urban version of the classic baseball and softball games. Known for its dynamism, this modality maintains many of the foundational principles of its main disciplines.
