A user reported on Monday that a dog was abandoned at a bus stop in Havana, where it was left tied to a fence with a collar and its name written on a piece of cardboard. The animal has been rescued and they are now looking for someone to adopt it.

"This little dog was abandoned early Saturday morning with his collar, his name, and everything. They tied him at the stop marked in green," explained Raisa Pérez Villaverde in the Facebook group “SOS Callejeros Cuba.”

"It is the last stop of Reparto Camilo Cienfuegos (East Havana) before entering the old road to Cojímar," the woman said, informing that the dog is currently tied up at the house across the street, at her sister's place, where he was given food and water.

“He spent the night there to prevent it from getting run over or lost and suffering bad consequences,” he noted while reiterating that they are looking for someone responsible to take care of the dog.

The post generated great outrage among internet users, who pointed out that it is very cruel to abandon a dog to fend for itself in the street, and that it is better to contact an animal protection organization to facilitate adoption.

Recently, animal protector Yenney Caballero raised the alarm about a dog found at Havana's International Airport that was apparently waiting for the return of its family, who had left the country.

The activist sought help on Facebook to transport the dog from terminal three to the home of an animal shelter, offering to cover the cost of the journey.

The animal welfare organization demonstrated its commitment to animal well-being when it reported that a Siberian Husky had been locked inside a house in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, for three days.

The young woman broke off a piece of the acrylic from the door, and when she inserted her cellphone camera, she confirmed that the place was abandoned and that the prisoner was a puppy.

Outraged and unsure of what to do, Caballero ultimately decided to release the animal through the acrylic opening and told the dog's owners to seek her out and, if they wished, report her to the police.
