Russia is considering building an oil refinery in Cuba.

Although it already supplies thousands of barrels of crude oil to its political ally, Russia is considering building an oil refinery in Cuba, according to information obtained during the visit of several parliamentarians to the island.

Among the official conversations, the mentioned idea proved to be a central point, as since March the Eurasian nation resumed fuel shipments after a year of disruption, according to reports by Reuters citing the Tass agency.

The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel stated on the social network X that he had conversations with the president of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Viacheslav Volodin, who leads the visiting delegation.

Through the Presidency Cuba account, the regime also reported on the meeting.

"Cuba has crude oil: it makes sense not to import petroleum products, but to produce them here," legislator Alexander Babakov told TASS. "The largest Russian companies could participate here," he added.

As is known, Venezuela is the main supplier of oil to Cuba, but shipments have decreased recently due to the prevailing socio-political situation in the South American territory.

However, last year, Mexico also exported significant amounts of oil, but the flow was not consistent.

In March, Moscow sent its first tanker in several months, EFE reported. The shipment was 650,000 barrels of crude oil aimed at helping the island amidst protests over the lack of energy and food in the country.
