Former Bolivian president Evo Morales suffered a heavy fall this Wednesday while descending the stairs of the Casa Blanca Hotel in the department of Santa Cruz, after giving a press conference on the second floor of the establishment.
After finishing his intervention on the presidential message from Luis Arce for August 6, Morales was heading to the ground floor of the hotel and, while descending two steps, slipped all the way down the stairs, hitting his face and shoulder hard.
"I hit myself hard!" exclaimed Morales as he lay on the ground, visibly affected by the impact.
The photos captured by local journalist Juan Carlos Torrejón and published in the newspaper El Deber show the moment of the accident and the immediate assistance provided by Morales's team.
The former Minister of Government, Carlos Romero, who was still in the conference room, hurried to request a taxi to take the former president to a nearby clinic.
Morales' medical team was contacted and it was reported that, despite the scare, the patient is stable and their injuries are not serious.
Close sources reported that Morales is recovering and his injuries are limited to bruises and pain in the face and shoulder.
In September of last year, Evo Morales announced that he would run to return to the presidency of the country in the 2025 elections; however, in December, the Plurinational Constitutional Court of Bolivia disqualified his candidacy and annulled indefinite re-election, considering that the president can only serve for two consecutive or non-consecutive terms.
