Pizza workers in Havana give new life to a dog whose owner could not feed him

Animal advocates celebrated on social media this Wednesday the remarkable transformation of a dog that was put up for adoption because its owner could no longer afford to feed it; the dog found a home with the workers at a pizzeria.

Maurilia Tarano Tamayo recalled the story of this dog in the Facebook group "SOS Callejeros. Cuba," mentioning that he was rescued when his owner, unable to feed him, put him up for adoption.

"We see today the transformation of Sultán, who was adopted by Rino's Pizza and Salsa Río, from Parque Almendares," said the woman, who emphasized the love with which the dog is treated.

"Today, he lives fully happy, filled with love from the pizzeria workers; he is the favorite and cherished by everyone," he noted.

Enmanuel Castro Pla shared two photos in the same Facebook group. The first shows Sultán when he was rescued on June 30, while the second was taken this Wednesday.

"Look at the change he has undergone in just over a month," she noted. "He went from being unable to get up even to eat to being the most hyperactive and happy dog you could ever see."

Although animal protectors often make a difference between life and death for a dog or a cat, their work is currently hampered by the crisis.

The scarcity is also causing more and more people to abandon or give up their pets for adoption due to their inability to feed them.

Migration has also impacted pets in Cuba, which are sometimes left behind, often fortunate to find adoption.

Recently, an animal shelter posted a unique advertisement on social media for the adoption of a puppy, looking for someone without parole, who does not live in rented accommodation, has no allergies, and will not keep the dog on a rooftop.

Alexa Milena Durán Ruiz posted a message in the Facebook group "We Are Your Voice," explaining that the puppy had to be rescued previously, but her brother was not as fortunate and was killed: "That’s why we are looking for a special family that meets all the requirements so that Campanita can grow up very happy and surrounded by love."
