The Cuban Misael González Rodríguez, 53 years old, was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Hialeah after being caught driving a dark-colored SUV that had been reported stolen days earlier.
The arrest occurred around 4:00 PM at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 49th Street in the eastern part of the city, when a police patrol from Hialeah observed the vehicle and stopped it.
When asking for the car documents, the agent discovered that González Rodríguez was driving with a suspended license since 2023.
Additionally, the vehicle identification numbers had been altered, and the license plate it carried - with the number 43AKSE - had also been reported as stolen.
After his arrest, González Rodríguez was transferred to Hialeah Hospital due to a medical emergency.
After being treated and discharged, he was taken back to the county jail, where on Monday he appeared before the Miami-Dade criminal court.
During the hearing, Judge Mindy S. Glazer stated that he was accused of stealing a vehicle and selling stolen goods, and that a public defender would be appointed to represent him.
The judge also found sufficient grounds for the charges of possession of a vehicle with altered identification and theft of a lesser amount, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Misael González was imposed a bail of 2,500 dollars for the first charge, with the option to complete the pre-trial program in case he is unable to pay the bail.
The vehicle was seized by the Hialeah police to undergo a more thorough investigation.
