The Cuban Diosvany Jiménez was arrested this Monday as a suspect in an armed robbery that took place in Hialeah on the afternoon of July 30.
Local 10 reported this Tuesday that, according to the arrest report, the victim parked their car in front of their house when they were approached by two armed men.
Jiménez, a 52-year-old resident of Miami, snatched the fanny pack from the victim while the other assailant pointed a gun at his head, police reported.
The two assailants got into a white SUV and fled south on West First Avenue, after which a witness called 911.
The victim reported that, before the robbery, they had made a large cash deposit at a Bank of America on Hialeah Drive and then headed to a convenience store on East First Avenue.
The detectives interviewed a witness who saw the entire robbery while sitting on her balcony and took a photo of the license plate of the suspicious vehicle, which, according to the police, had not been registered since 2013 and was not assigned to the white GMC Arcadia it was attached to.
Later, the detectives discovered that the SUV was usually driven by Jiménez, who also matched the physical characteristics described by the victim and a witness.
The police reported that a store camera captured the victim being followed by a newer model, black Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV.
They indicated that the GMC stopped in the parking lot and one of the people inside the Mercedes got into the GMC.
The two people in the GMC continued to follow the victim as he moved away.
The robbery was also captured on surveillance video, which shows the suspects blocking the victim's car, stated Local 10.
According to the police, the data from Jiménez's mobile phone confirmed that he was involved in the robbery.
Until this Tuesday, Jiménez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bail had not yet been set.
Authorities are still seeking information about the identity of the second robber.
In May, a Cuban identified as Léster Ramírez Rodríguez, 37 years old, attempted to flee from a traffic stop in Hialeah because he was driving a stolen car. The man was injured by an officer, who fired several shots, fearing he would be run over.
Another Cuban resident in Hialeah was arrested for assaulting a man with a golf club and stabbing him to rob him. Julio Álvarez Hernández, known as El Gato, 54 years old, struck and injured the victim with a knife to the back of the head in order to take his wallet and a gold chain.
