A traffic accident was reported on Wednesday afternoon at the busy intersection of Paseo de Martí and Avenida de los Libertadores in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
The incident took place near the iconic 18-story building on Martí Avenue and the Moncada Barracks, two landmarks in the city, as reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook.
Apparently, a light vehicle collided with a motorcycle at that pedestrian crossing, although it has not yet been confirmed if there were any serious injuries.
In the comments section, several users agreed that this is one of the most dangerous intersections in the city, a problem that worsens when the traffic light is out during blackouts.
Recently, a motorcycle police officer - popularly known as "caballitos" - died in a traffic accident in the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, in Holguín.
A post in the Facebook group Accidents Buses & Trucks indicated that the incident involved the deceased officer and a truck, and that it happened at a location known as “Curva del Carpintero” on the Levisa - Sagua road.
The collision in the early morning of Wednesday, August 7, between a Yutong bus and a truck on the Central Highway, at the height of the province of Camagüey, resulted in at least one fatality, according to various reports on social media.
In another recent tragedy, also in Camagüey, the collision of a riquimbili with a private truck resulted in three fatalities in the municipality of Guáimaro.
