Cuban man beats and robs his mother-in-law in Little Havana pretending to be a thief.

A 35-year-old Cuban identified as Asiel Fuentes Quintana appeared this Thursday before the Miami-Dade criminal court, where he was charged with serious offenses for a violent attack against a 73-year-old woman, who turned out to be his mother-in-law.

The accused arrived at the court handcuffed and dressed in white, facing charges of "physical assault, grand theft, and physical assault on a person of advanced age."

The incident occurred last Monday in an apartment located in the block 2507 of Northwest 16th Street in Little Havana, Miami.

According to the victim's testimony -quoted by Telemundo 51- the attacker was caught by the victim hiding in the bathroom of the apartment. The man was covering his face with a towel and was wearing gloves while trying to rob.

The arrest report details that, when discovered, the suspect reacted violently, punching the victim in the face until they fell to the ground.

Despite the pleas of the woman, who begged him to leave her alone because of her illness and advanced age, Fuentes Quintana continued the assault.

After the beating, the accused covered the victim with a towel and ordered him, “You can leave after the door is closed.”

The victim suffered multiple bruises as a result of the attack.

The case took an unexpected turn when, thanks to a security video captured by a neighbor, the assailant was identified.

The video showed Fuentes Quintana walking down the hallway of the building before attempting the theft.

Subsequently, the victim's daughter, upon seeing the images, identified the aggressor as her own husband.

The investigation revealed that on the morning of the incident, the accused's wife could not find her mother's apartment keys in her purse, which raised suspicions.

According to the detectives, Fuentes Quintana wrote to his wife from jail, stating that he tried to turn himself in to the police and blaming drugs for his actions.

Asiel Fuentes Quintana will remain in jail without the possibility of bail. The charges could lead him to spend many years behind bars if found guilty.
