A Brazilian tourist recently reported on social media that, in the poorly stocked Cuban markets in MLC, alcoholic beverages are the only product that is never lacking, highlighting the scarcity that exists in the country.
Lawyer Agnaldo Borges (@agnaldo_borges) reported on TikTok that in Cuban markets located in tourist areas, there are only a few essential products available, while alcoholic beverages are not in short supply.
Among the few products found in the visited market were Café Serrano (26.14 MLC) and shelves filled with bottles of water.
"Quite a lot of nothing," the tourist scoffed while pointing out that most of the shelves were completely empty.
"The drinks are not lacking," he pointed out while showing the large number of bottles of alcoholic beverages.
"If you stay around here too long, one is going to start being for sale," commented another tourist in Portuguese.
The man pointed out some shelves full of cookies and said that this product is everywhere, implying that the shortage situation observed in this market is being repeated in similar ones.
In the video, the Brazilian tourist mentioned that he couldn't film inside the store, as it seemed that someone questioned the intent with which he was making the video.
In the end, he said: “In all of Cuba, alcoholic beverages are never lacking.”
After visiting Cuba, many tourists express on social media the effects of the economic crisis affecting the country.
"Limited food and lines of up to two hours to get a piece of meat," described some the situation at the Meliá Las Dunas hotel in Cayo Santa María, in the north of the Cuban province of Villa Clara.
A customer who visited the facility last week reported to CiberCuba that the situation there is "shameful."
The recent opening of the importing company Mesol, managed by Meliá Hotels International in Cuba, highlighted the profound crisis that the island is experiencing in terms of the supply of basic products.
This initiative, although presented by the official press as an efficient solution to maintain quality in the hotels of the Spanish chain, is a reflection of the ineffectiveness of the Cuban government to guarantee the provision of essential goods to its population and, now, to its business partners.
