The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel reported this Friday that he had to have his arm immobilized due to "severe discomfort" and thanked those who "worried" about his recovery.

"Thank you very much to those who have expressed concern about my arm in a sling and to the excellent medical team that addressed the severe discomfort in my shoulder," the leader posted on his X account.

He explained that the right arm was "temporarily immobilized"; but that "the left works fully, like the rest of the body. Tough and hardworking, for the country."

Previously, a photograph had circulated showing Díaz-Canel with his arm immobilized, which sparked several comments among supporters and detractors.

Díaz-Canel attended the Casa de las Américas to participate in an event where the Haydée Santamaría Medal was awarded to Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986.

The president shared a photo on his X account where he is seen partially hidden next to the honoree and behind his wife, Lis Cuesta; however, the image of the cast did not go unnoticed by internet users, some of whom reacted and mocked the situation.

"Tell Raúl to loosen the strings," "But who got you that comeback and broke your right wing?" were some of the comments.

On his right wrist, the ruler usually wears a Rolex GMT Master II watch worth $13,000, without noticing the contrast between the luxury displayed by the leader and the misery in which most Cubans survive.

What do you think?
