Five Republican congressmen signed a letter this Thursday urging U.S. President Joe Biden to deny visa requests from the "evil dictators" Miguel Díaz-Canel, Nicolás Maduro, and Masoud Pezeshkian, the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran, respectively, so they do not attend the United Nations General Assembly (UN) next September.
Senators from Florida Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, along with Tom Cotton (Arkansas), Joni Ernst (Iowa), and Markwayne Mullin (Oklahoma), stated that the host nation must prevent the meeting from "turning into a platform for the most wicked leaders on Earth to gain credibility and promote their dangerous views that pose significant threats to the national security of the United States and our allies."
The letter states that "Díaz-Canel, who inherited and has maintained the Castro dictatorship and the brutal oppression of the Cuban people, has a decades-long history of threatening the United States and harboring its worst enemies, including allowing communist China to build a spy base just 90 miles from the United States and recently organizing military exercises with Russia that brought Russian nuclear-powered submarines just miles off the coast of Florida."
Meanwhile, it claims that "Maduro is actively trying to steal an election from the Venezuelan people and imprisoning his political opponents to maintain his illegitimate control of power."
Likewise, remember that "the newly installed Iranian President Pezeshkian has publicly promised to continue the policies of his predecessor, the 'Butcher of Tehran', of attacking Israel and the United States."
On the social network X, Scott repeated his call for Biden to deny entry to the country to "dictators, oppressors, and human rights violators such as Ortega, Díaz-Canel, and Maduro."
Meanwhile, Rubio wrote that under no circumstances should these dictators be allowed to enter the United States.
The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) will take place in New York City from September 10 to 24, 2024.
