New images taken at the "Antonio María Béguez César" Children's Hospital, known as La Colonia, were shared by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.
The photos are a denunciation of the crisis that the healthcare system is going through across the country: dirty bathrooms to the point of disgust, broken furniture, non-functioning sanitary facilities, and terrible food for patients, create the scenario that sick children and their parents are experiencing.
Hundreds of people have left their comments on Mayeta's Facebook post.
"God protect and keep our children from getting sick. How sad," a mother stated.
"Speechless, to what level is the supposed medical power," expressed a young woman.
"They do not provide the necessary resources to the cleaning staff, just imagine, only when a visitor arrives, it's all for show. Besides, there is nothing due to lack of management and shamelessness," remarked a resident of Santiago.
Another mother emphasized that those problems have always existed in La Colonia, and she recalled the only time she had her son (now a man) hospitalized when he was six years old.
"The lack of hygiene in the bathrooms was so great that I considered bathing him. The only thing I could think of was to bathe him in a basin that I brought from home, and I would say to him: 'sit up straighter than a candle.' This lack of hygiene can cause a child to become ill from so much dirt," he detailed.
A woman from Havana lamented that almost all the bathrooms in Cuban hospitals maintain those same inhumane conditions. "And the funniest thing is, who are you going to complain to?"
What do you think?
