A Cuban father is fighting to obtain the humanitarian visa that will allow him to travel to the United States to see his son, Adrián Chile, a 24-year-old who is in critical condition after being struck by lightning at a beach in Naples, Florida.
The accident occurred on August 31. Adrián was enjoying the sea with his family when a lightning bolt struck him and two other young people who have already managed to recover.
His mother, Maylovis García, was also at the accident scene and administered first aid. She managed to keep the young man alive until medical assistance arrived.
Currently, Adrián is connected to breathing machines. The doctors warn that the injuries to his brain are irreversible, but they are doing everything possible for his improvement.
Maylovis has only been in the United States for eight months, facing this difficult situation while her husband, Juan Carlos Chile, remains in Cuba unable to be there for their son during such hard times.
The family has requested a humanitarian visa so that the father can travel and be with Adrián. Univisión Noticias reported that some American organizations such as Solidaridad Sin Fronteras and Green Cross are supporting the family in their visa application process.
Taimy Venereo from Green Cross declared that they are doing everything possible to help the father with the visa. In addition, they have started a fundraising campaign due to the delicate situation.
The family has also received support from Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart. His office is processing the application for the humanitarian visa for Juan Carlos.
Meanwhile, the young man's mother clings to hope, trusting in the doctors' efforts to save her son's life.
The case has shocked the Cuban community in the United States, which has mobilized to help this family.
