A person in Havana publicly reported on social media that her four-year-old Pekinese dog died after not receiving care at a state veterinary clinic.
Cyrex Vega reported in the Facebook group "Animal Protection Society in Cuba" that upon noticing his pet was having difficulty breathing, he took her to the clinic located at 29 between 62 and 64, Buenavista, in the Playa municipality, as it was the closest to his home.
Vega stressed that despite the veterinarian still being at the location, he refused to attend to the little dog, claiming that he had already finished his workday, and suggested that she go to another place.
He indicated that the veterinarian was a young man of just over 30 years old, with fair skin.
Desperate, the pet owner tried to take her to a private clinic at 7th and 92nd. However, during the journey, the puppy suffered a respiratory arrest.
He noted that the veterinarians at the private clinic tried to revive her for over 30 minutes, but unfortunately, they were unable to save her.
In the comments section, most people have agreed to point out the indifference of the young veterinarian, his unprofessional attitude, and the lack of love for the profession.
Although Vega emphasized the veterinarian's attitude in his complaint, the reality faced by animal defenders in Cuba is more related to the shortage of resources in state clinics and the high costs they must face in private clinics.
On several occasions, animal advocates have expressed their outrage over the closure of veterinary clinics, which reflects the little attention the regime pays to this type of health service.
The La Playa Affective Animals Veterinary Clinic, the only state-managed facility in the city of Matanzas, the capital of the homonymous province, was closed due to the deterioration of the facility.
A similar situation occurred in Havana, where Cuban animal advocates denounced the closure of a state veterinary clinic, describing it as a death sentence for the animals that depend on these services.
