The final resting place of the Cuban singer José Manuel Carbajal (El Taiger) would be the subject of an alleged legal battle, according to Univision journalist Mario Vallejo.
In a live broadcast on Facebook, Vallejo stated that "the owners of the funeral home that was going to process the shipment of the coffin to Cuba were already in the office of the forensic doctor and had already come to an agreement with Jorge Junior," when suddenly "a woman" appeared with a power "supposedly notarized and who had every right to decide on the future of El Taiger's body."
"Amid this, there is an internal struggle between those who want El Taiger's body to be cremated and stay in Miami and those, the family, who want to take him to Cuba," the journalist added this weekend.
Mario Vallejo, who did not name the woman who would have the alleged "notarial power" to decide, advocated for a negotiated solution to the conflict at a time when peace and tributes to the deceased artist should take precedence.
What does Jorge Junior say?
The singer Jorge Junior, cousin of El Taiger, appeared on Instagram a few hours ago to confirm that the funeral will finally take place on the weekend of October 18 and 19 at the San Lázaro Church in Hialeah.
Without making a direct reference to the supposed woman that Mario Vallejo alluded to, the leader of Los 4 expressed that he is working alongside the lawyers and the family to ensure that El Taiger can rest in Cuba alongside his mother, and he assured that he will do everything possible to make that happen.
"We are seeing how to bring my cousin to the island, so that he can be buried alongside his mom, as he deserves," he explained.
"I have received many videos of some people trying to take advantage of what happened, seeking ratings, I don't have time for those people right now," the singer also said.
He added that the moment is not to respond, but to organize something "nice" to say goodbye to El Taiger as he deserves.
In his statements, Jorge Junior also expressed his confidence in the U.S. authorities and called for justice for the death of his cousin.
Until now, it was known that the remains of the reggaeton artist would be taken to Cuba, as Jorge Hernández Carvajal (Jorge Junior) had previously informed Univision.
"I brought him and I take him away... He will be cremated and will be with his mother in Cuba," he had assured.
On social media, some followers of El Taiger have claimed that, due to his deep love for Cuba, the singer's remains should be sent to the island.
Others, however, believe that his life and career in the U.S. are equally significant and think he should remain in U.S. territory.
In an interview, José Manuel Carbajal himself had spoken out on the subject.
"My body in ashes and above my coffin let them do whatever they want and play dice," he replied with laughter when asked if he would go to heaven or hell.
On October 3rd, El Taiger was found seriously injured in the back of a Mercedes Benz truck that was abandoned near the emergency room of Jackson Memorial Hospital. An anonymous call alerted the authorities, who immediately ruled out that it was a suicide attempt.
On October 10th, it was officially reported that the artist had passed away after being hospitalized in critical condition for a week.
The Miami Police have described the case as a "puzzle" and have called on the community to assist with any information that could help solve it.
According to police spokesperson Freddie Cruz, the truck where El Taiger's body was found has already been identified, and its owner is known, although that information has not yet been publicly disclosed.
One of the names that has emerged in the investigation is Damián Valdez-Galloso, alias "El Narra," who has been identified as a person of interest in the case.
According to the authorities, Valdez-Galloso is not a direct suspect in the murder but may have key information to unravel what happened, as he was the last person to be with El Taiger the night before the incident and was also the one who rented the hotel room where the reggaeton singer slept before being shot.
