Jorge Junior, director of the popular Cuban group Los 4 and cousin of the late artist José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar (El Taiger), spoke about the organization of the funeral arrangements and expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy that has shaken the Cuban community.
Through a video on social media, Jorge Junior confirmed that the funeral services will be held on the weekend of October 18 and 19 at a prominent church in Miami, and he extended an invitation to all who wish to pay tribute to El Taiger.
"We will be together at the Church of San Lázaro (Rincón de San Lázaro in Hialeah) to bid farewell to El Taiger as he deserves," he stated, clearly affected by the situation.
Jorge Junior asked for patience from the followers, promising that this week they will share the exact details regarding the schedule and order of the funeral, inviting those who wish to participate to join in bidding farewell to his cousin in the manner that he deserves.
During the message, he thanked those who have shown their support during this difficult time, emphasizing the significance of his cousin's role in Cuban culture. "He brought a lot of joy and music to this genre," he recalled with emotion.
The leader of Los 4 stated that he is working with the lawyers and the family to ensure that El Taiger can rest in his homeland, alongside his mother in Cuba, and he assured that he will do everything possible to make this happen.
"We are looking into how to bring my cousin to the island, so he can be buried alongside his mother as he deserves," he explained.
In his statements, Jorge Junior also expressed his confidence in the U.S. authorities and called for justice for the death of El Taiger.
"I have a great deal of trust in the laws here, in the authorities here," he said, reiterating that everyone deserves to know the reasons and those responsible for this tragedy.
The artist concluded his message by expressing gratitude to those who have shown support, both in Miami and in Cuba. He highlighted how fans in the streets and at the airport have embraced him and offered their condolences, which he finds very moving.
El Taiger was a believer in God and the Yoruba religion, which is quite common on the island due to the long process of religious syncretism in the Americas and the Caribbean. He was the son of San Lázaro and a devoted follower of this saint, who is dearly loved and venerated in Cuba.
