The United States Embassy in Havana announced that due to power outages and the suspension of non-essential activities in Cuba, the Consular Section of that embassy will only be operational for emergency services on October 24 and 25.

Routine services, including appointments for immigrant and non-immigrant visas, document review, the CFRP program (Parole), as well as services for refugees and family members of asylees, have been postponed.

Applicants will receive updates directly, so it is not necessary to contact the embassy.

Those immigrant visa applicants who have confirmed the issuance of their visa on the CEAC site can pick it up during regular hours.

For emergencies, U.S. citizens can email ACSHavana@state.gov or call +(53) (7) 839-4100. After business hours, they should dial 1 and then 0.

For inquiries about visas, the contact is visasHavana@state.gov.

The U.S. embassy in Havana reiterated its recommendation to citizens of that country who are in Cuba to take precautionary measures such as staying informed through local media, storing water and food, keeping their mobile phones charged, reviewing contingency plans, and staying in frequent contact with family and friends.

On Monday, October 20, the Embassy had already suspended all services due to the general collapse of the electrical system in the country, and announced that it would be open for emergency cases.

He also urged them to register on the site step.state.gov to receive security updates.

The Cuban government announced this Wednesday, October 23, the extension until October 27 of the suspension of classes and work activities in the country, citing the need for recovery after the hurricane and the restoration of the SEN.

"To continue the efforts arising from the recovery period for the damages caused by Hurricane Oscar in the eastern region of the country and the restoration of the National Electroenergetic System, the National Defense Council has decided to extend until next Sunday, October 27, the measures adopted by the Government, published on October 20, 2024, related to labor and educational activities," official media reported.

The note added that "it is reaffirmed that workers who are mobilized under these circumstances receive payment of their average salary, and those who do not attend work due to this suspension receive a salary guarantee equivalent to the salary scale of the position they occupy."
