The United States Embassy in Havana announced that it has made a WhatsApp channel available to the public to inform Cuban citizens about procedures and services on the island.

On the social network Instagram, the diplomatic office published: "Find out about the legal ways to enter the United States safely and legally. Subscribe to the WhatsApp channel by scanning the QR code."

Through a video, the embassy explained that the process involves scanning the QR code of "Migración USA" and following all immigration-related news via the WhatsApp application.

On August 19th, the office began a significant expansion of its consular services, focusing on visa issuance in response to the growing demand and to facilitate Cubans' access to job and educational opportunities in American territory.

For example, Cuban citizens who have temporary work requests approved by the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), as well as those participating in exchange programs with an approved Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status, will be able to schedule their visa interviews at the diplomatic mission.

However, the embassy has emphasized that this expansion does not include business visas B-1 or tourist visas B-2, which remain unavailable through its office in Havana.

This movement is part of the embassy's ongoing effort to strengthen ties between both countries while providing legal pathways for Cubans to access new opportunities in the United States.

The diplomatic mission invited Cubans interested in obtaining more details about the specific visa categories to visit the official website of the United States Embassy in Cuba.

In August 2023, the United States government reopened its USCIS office in Cuba after being closed for almost five years. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has since been developing a broad communication program informing about its services on the island.
