The musical work of El Taiger will outlast the artist, and his followers will keep his legacy alive on the dance floors, as demonstrated by hundreds of Mexicans who let loose to the rhythm of his hit song "El Punto" in a nightclub in the capital.
Mama Rumba, an iconic nightclub in Mexico City that pays tribute to Latin music, particularly Cuban music, experienced a special moment this Saturday as its patrons danced to the famous song by El Taiger and other artists.
"The early morning arrives and the enjoyment is unmatched. Such are the nights of dancing and revelry at Mama Rumba," noted the nightclub in its post.
Néstor Rius, the public relations manager of the bar, explained to CiberCuba that in this nightclub, which has nearly 33 years of history and a theme focused on Cuban culture, priority is given to the music of artists born on the Caribbean island.
"All the music that is played and danced to here is Cuban," Rius emphasized. "During the orchestra's breaks, some dancers take the opportunity to enjoy the current tracks played by the DJ," such as the songs by El Taiger.
He also mentioned that El Chino DJ, although he was born in Mexico, is Cuban at heart: "He has been the one to promote Cuban music for over 20 years."
Additionally, it was noted that the essence of Mama Rumba – focused on honoring the music and dances of Cuba – has endured for over three decades thanks to the efforts of Luis Tukio Rodríguez, its Cuban-born operational manager, who has been at the helm of the bar since nearly its inception.
According to Rius, one of the greatest achievements of the famous nightclub has been hosting some of the most important orchestras and singers of Cuban music on its stage.
One of the Cuban orchestras that recently performed at Mama Rumba was Alexander Abreu and Havana D’ Primera, as part of their tour in Mexico.
Adalberto Álvarez, better known as El Caballero del Son, also took the stage at Mama Rumba a few years ago.
