"I have found a home and an identity here": Cuban influencer Anita Mateu shares how she emigrated to Galicia.

"I honestly wouldn't want to leave here; if I could live in Galicia forever, I would choose to stay."

The Cuban influencer Anita Mateu has left her TikTok followers with full hearts after sharing the story of how she ended up living in Galicia and why she feels at home in this land. In her latest video, Anita, who often shares moments from her life and her adaptation in Spain, addresses a question many have asked her: "What am I doing in Galicia?"

Anita shares that she emigrated from Cuba to Galicia thanks to her best friend, who encouraged her to move. The story begins when her friend, who had lived in the Canary Islands, moved to Galicia after falling in love with the region during a vacation with her Galician boyfriend. "It was pure coincidence that I ended up here," Anita explains, adding that she arrived on a tourist visa and without many expectations, but the reality took her by surprise.

Anita is not a Cuban who loves the heat; quite the opposite: "I’m a strange Cuban, you could say... being in the heat all the time overwhelms me," she confesses, surprising her followers. Although the Galician cold was a challenge at first, she now claims to have adapted to the climate and found her own layered style of dressing, “like the people dress here.” Regarding her experience in Galicia, the influencer remarks: "I have found a home and an identity here."

Her statement has sparked an outpouring of reactions in the comments, where Galicians and other emigrants have deeply connected with her story. "My heart fills with joy when I hear how beautifully you speak of Galicia. Thank you so much"; "I cry loudly listening to you talk about my land. Galicia is an inexplicable feeling"; "I left Barcelona in a hurry, and coming to Galicia was the best decision of my life"; "I am Cuban, and I also like the cold; it makes me happy to know I'm not the only one"; "Sometimes the best friends support you more than anyone else."

Other users took the opportunity to highlight the Galician hospitality and the sense of community they feel when they hear it. "We Galicians are very friendly; I'm glad you see it that way."; "We Galicians were the ones who emigrated to Cuba, and now we welcome Cubans who are seeking the same."; "Thank you for speaking so kindly about my country; Cuba lost a great girl, and Galicia gained her."

Anita also mentioned that she now feels integrated in Galicia and does not want to leave. The quality of life, the kindness of the people, and even the food are some of the reasons she says she doesn't miss the heat of Cuba. While some ask her if she is considering moving to other places in Spain, such as the Canary Islands or even Italy, her answer is clear: "If I could live here in Galicia forever, I would stay."

Her story has reached thousands of people who, like her, have found a special place in Galicia, a second home. As one of the users says, “You’re one of us now, Anita. Galicia has a corner for everyone who knows how to love it.”
