The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, left Valencia amid insults and objects being thrown at him, after being struck with a stick on the back.
Mud, stones, sticks... various objects were hurled by enraged residents of Paiporta, the municipality most affected by the DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels), not only against Sánchez but also against the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the kings.
The official left under heavy escort after being struck on the back by a stick, as shown in a video.
"Get out!", "Leave!", "Coward!", and "Son of a bitch!" were some of the insults directed at the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party as he was leaving.
A group of people kept hitting and kicking Sánchez's car until the very last moment as he drove away.
Hours later, in front of the press, the president described those who booed and attacked him as "violent" and "marginal."
"We will not be sidetracked, despite what may happen with some completely marginal violent individuals; the overall desire of the Valencian and Spanish citizenry is to look ahead and move forward with their lives," he expressed.
The official delegation was greeted with shouts of "murderers" and "get out, get out."
The protests by the population, who feel completely abandoned after six days of the disaster, also reached King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who were splashed with mud.
