Karol G has responded to criticism following the release of the song “+57,” in collaboration with other major Colombian reggaeton artists such as Maluma, J Balvin, Feid, and Blessd. The track, which celebrates the unity of Colombian artists, has sparked controversy primarily due to a line in its lyrics: “A mamacita since fourteen / Walks into the club and you can feel her vibe / Baby, I’m taking these shots for you.”

On social media, several users expressed their concern about this expression, which they consider inappropriate and potentially harmful.

In response, Karol G published a statement on her social media, expressing her frustration over the misinformation circulating. The artist stressed that the phrase in question was misinterpreted and that she never intended to convey such a message. "None of the things said in the song have the direction that has been given to them, nor were they said from that perspective," she explained, adding that her goal with “+57” was to "celebrate the unity among artists and get my people dancing."

“I take responsibility and realize that I still have a lot to learn,” Karol G stated, expressing her regret over the misunderstanding.

Rolling Stone even published an article on the subject titled "The Disaster of ‘+57’," where they remark that it is "serious" that such language continues to be used in reggaeton songs at this point.

In addition to the criticism of the lyrics, the song has also faced scrutiny due to the absence of women in the project, where Karol G is the only female artist. Singers like Farina pointed out that this highlights the lack of female representation in the urban genre in Colombia, which has sparked a new debate on social media regarding gender equality in music. However, Karol G expressed her gratitude to her supporters and the artists who took part in the song, emphasizing the "beautiful energy" they brought to the project and underscoring her ongoing appreciation for those who follow and support her, acknowledging those who understand her vision.

Despite Karol G's apologies, the controversy continues to generate divided opinions, particularly because other artists involved in "+57" have downplayed the criticisms.

Blessd and Ryan Castro, for example, urged those who do not enjoy the song to simply not listen to it. This contrast in responses has kept the debate alive on social media about the boundaries in reggaeton lyrics and the responsibility of artists regarding the messages they convey to the public.
