Cuban-American politician Marco Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, proudly received confirmation on Wednesday that he will serve as Secretary of State in the second term of elected President Donald Trump.
In a message on the social media platform X, Rubio stated: “Leading the Department of State is a tremendous responsibility, and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me. As Secretary of State, I will work daily to carry out his foreign policy agenda.”
The senator emphasized that, under Trump’s directive, his mission will be to achieve "peace through strength" and assured that his work will always be focused on defending the interests of American citizens and the United States.
Known for his firm stance on issues such as China, Cuba, and Iran, he has been a key figure in the Republican Party's foreign policy for several years.
Although his name had previously been considered as a potential vice president, Rubio's appointment to the State Department underscores Trump's intention to establish a foreign policy characterized by the active defense of U.S. interests.
After the decision was announced, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart wrote: "This is a historic moment, and there is no one more prepared, no one with more experience, and no one who fights harder to keep America safe than Marco Rubio.”
"He has been on the right side of every major issue since the beginning of his career, and he will advance our national security interests. It is time for the United States to treat adversaries as adversaries and friends as friends. That is finally happening," he added.
