A Cuban from Miami was arrested for attempting to engage in sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl to whom he sent explicit sexual messages, along with nude photos and videos.

Yosvany Fernández González, 37 years old, was arrested on Thursday while attempting to meet the minor at the Target shopping center located at 3825 NW Seventh St.

The arrest was made by the Miami Police Department's Cyber Crimes Unit against Children, which conducted an undercover operation.

According to América TeVe, the investigation began after the mother of the pre-adolescent filed a complaint upon discovering that her child had exchanged explicit text messages with someone who appeared to be an adult man, including several explicit images and videos.

In the police operation, the detectives posed as the girl, contacted the Cuban, and arranged a meeting. Upon arriving at the store, he was apprehended.

During the interrogation, he confessed to having sent illicit text messages and videos to the victim. The police examined his electronic devices and found four photographs of the minor in the nude.

Local 10 published some of the messages that the suspect sent to the agent posing as the girl. Among the phrases written by Fernández González were: "I want to see you because I like you, I want to give you a kiss," "I can see you at my friends' house, they left me the key, I have to leave now, I'll let you know when I arrive, I'm just going to give you a kiss," and "I just want to give you delicious kisses."

For their part, the girl told the detectives that the individual "has tried to meet her in person on multiple occasions."

On Friday, he appeared in court where a bail of 55,000 euros was set. For now, he is at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. If released, he will be subject to house arrest.

He faces eight serious charges, including four counts related to the possession of child sexual abuse materials, lewd conduct with a minor, traveling to meet a minor, sending harmful electronic material to minors, solicitation of children, and possession of child pornography.

In a press release, the police urged any additional potential victims of Fernández González to come forward and contact their Special Victims Unit at 305-603-6300.

"The Miami Police Department remains committed to protecting children from all crimes and will work tirelessly to identify and bring young offenders to justice," said Michael Vega, spokesperson for the MPD.
