A Cuban known on TikTok as @yuli_la_prospera97 did not hold back and fully responded to a comment questioning her decision to travel to Cuba. In a video shared on the platform, the young woman made it clear that nobody, not even her harshest critics, has the right to comment on her choices when it comes to her mother.
"I'm going to explain something to you, Enia: I will go to Cuba as many times as necessary because I have residency, which, perhaps, you don’t even have," she began in response to the comment. She then explained that her mother is going through "a tremendous struggle" and that although she would like to get her out of the island, she can't because she is not wealthy and currently does not work to take care of her son.
The Cuban woman expressed her annoyance at those who criticize others for traveling to Cuba, especially when they have family there. "I don't care what you think or what this man thinks (referring to Otaola). I lost so much in Cuba because my mom is there, and as long as she is there, I will keep going," she stated emphatically.
He also criticized those who, in his view, try to impose rules about who can travel and who cannot. "It's enough of telling people what they should do. We are free. Leave communism in Cuba."
The response not only resonated with her followers but also garnered support in the comments. Many users defended her stance and shared their own experiences, demonstrating that this topic remains a sensitive issue within the Cuban community.
Among the reactions, phrases such as: “I agree with you, as long as my mother and son are there, I will go and I don't care who likes it or not”; “Only those of us who have family in Cuba know what we endure”; “That is very true, give love to your mom, who is the most important”; “Who the hell is anyone to question what I do, this is a free country”; and “As long as I have my family there, I will go as many times as necessary; they can say whatever they want about me.”
Some also expressed frustration with those who criticize from a distance: "Those who give that kind of opinion either don't have family in Cuba or they just don't care, plain and simple"; "I missed the last two years of my mother's life, I wish I had had residency to go see her"; and "People can be shameless, why the hell should anyone care where someone goes?"
The video also reignited an ongoing debate among Cubans in exile regarding the decision to travel to the island and how this is perceived within the community.
